Connecticut is home to a qualified and productive workforce that produces a wide range of innovative, creative and cool products. The Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) compiled a list of 16 of these products for their first-annual Coolest Thing Made in Connecticut contest, and Electric Boat’s Virginia-class submarine was one of them.
The single-elimination, bracket-style contest kicked off on August 21, 2024, with the first round of voting. Throughout a total of four rounds, people placed their votes until only two products remained in the fourth and final round.
At the Connecticut Manufacturing Summit in Hartford, CT, on October 2, 2024, Electric Boat’s Virginia-class submarine was announced the 2024 Coolest Thing Made in Connecticut.
Building these magnificent vessels is an important job that each and every Electric Boat shipbuilder takes pride in, and we are truly honored to receive this recognition. Thank you to CBIA for hosting this competition to highlight Connecticut’s world-class manufacturing industry, to our fellow competitors for showing off the products you proudly make throughout the state and to all those who voted for the Virginia-class submarine. Most importantly, thank you to the men and women of Electric Boat for the craftsmanship, passion and grit you put into these world-class ships.
Just a small representation of the 24,000 Electric Boat shipbuilders who bring these submarines to life joined in accepting a banner commemorating our contest win in front of Virginia-class submarine PCU Utah (SSN 801).
