Engineering Internships.
Join more than 5,000 engineers who design, build, and modernize the world’s most advanced submarines. From designing Columbia-class submarines—one of the U.S. Navy’s highest priorities—to assisting with real-time construction of Virginia-class enhancements and next-generation capabilities, you’ll take on meaningful engineering challenges while gaining hands-on experience in a highly specialized field. Applications for college students typically open September – October for the following summer.
Business Operations Internships.
Building the world’s most advanced submarines requires more than engineering. Behind every construction milestone is a team of business, supply chain, and operations professionals keeping complex programs on track—and you’ll have the opportunity to learn from them firsthand. These internships are for College students only.

You’ll be paired with a dedicated mentor to help you navigate the transition from classroom to career and gain insight into the challenges and opportunities within the field. Applications are typically open September – October for the following summer.
Engineering Co-ops.
Are you a college student looking for a deeper experience than a standard internship? Electric Boat’s Engineering Co-Op Program replaces a semester in the classroom with a full-time engineering role.
Over the course of a 4-6 month assignment, you’ll become part of an active engineering team, working side-by-side with experienced professionals to gain a deeper understanding of the skills, collaboration, and problem-solving required to design and build the world’s most advanced submarines.
Co-op positions are available during the Spring and Fall semesters at Electric Boat locations in Groton, New London, and North Stonington, Connecticut, as well as North Kingstown and Newport, Rhode Island. Applications are typically open during the fall for the Co-Ops that begin in the spring semester and during the spring for Co-Ops that begin in the fall semester.
Summer High School Internship Program (SHIP).
You could have a summer job that passes the time—or one that helps you build a future. SHIP gives rising high school seniors a paid opportunity to gain hands-on experience at Electric Boat’s Quonset Point and Groton facilities while exploring careers in skilled trades, design and advanced manufacturing.
Over eight weeks, between your junior and senior year, you’ll work alongside experienced mentors, develop practical skills, and explore trades like machining, electrical work, pipefitting, design, and welding. It’s a chance to learn, grow, and see where a future in advanced manufacturing could take you. Applications typically open February–March for internships beginning in late June or early July. Students who successfully complete the SHIP program after their junior year may be eligible to continue working part-time through the SHIP Co-Op Program during their senior year.
